Railway Enthusiast Shares Lifelong Passion

A lifelong enthusiast of railways, I've been fascinated by trains for 65 years, and my wife and I often volunteer at a heritage railway.

We've noticed the particular appeal of railways to individuals with autism, especially young people, who are drawn to the predictability of timetables, signals, and other railway paraphernalia.

The hobby also offers endless opportunities for studying details and collecting information on engine numbers, liveries, performance records, and statistics.

As highlighted in Brannon Carty's film, this passion doesn't have to be a solitary pursuit – there are millions of others who share this enthusiasm.

The Narrow Gauge Railway Museum in Tywyn showcases the study of Thomas's creator, Wilbert Awdry, featuring theological texts alongside railway books and a model railway on his desk.

This unique display is a testament to the joy that railways can bring to people's lives.

This attraction is not unique to our experience; many others share this fascination. In fact, Brannon Carty's film highlights the global community of adult fans of Thomas the Tank Engine.
